Monique Kehau Low (b. 1980) is a queer, Kānaka Maoli (Native Hawaiian) artist, photographer and creative director residing in the San Francisco Bay Area. Raised on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi, born from a culture of oral storytelling, Low uses a combination of photography, and mixed media as mediums for artistic expression, creating images that provoke imagination, curiosity, mystery and desire. She is currently working on an experimental light-leak photography series which is shot on 35mm film. Her themes focus on the narrative of ownership, consent, and the democratization of design/art. She’s influenced by artists who transcend the confines of the genre, creating a confluence where design, fashion, architecture, street and fine arts intersect. These visionaries include: Viviane Sassen, Virgil Abloh, Daido Moriyama, Sig Zane, and Donald Judd.
